Here is a partially unreleased rare recording of Judy Garland during an informal party at Stan Freeman’s home in New York City in December 1968, taped by songwriter John Meyer. Freeman and Meyer shared “piano duty” at the party, both accompanying Judy at various times.
This recording presents a kind of “Judy unplugged” in which she’s having fun singing informally, playing around with the song, trying to remember the lyrics, yet still displaying her one-of-a-kind brilliance.
Also heard at times in the background is singer/actress Mary McCarty.Part of this recording is included on the fantastic new 2-CD set “Judy Garland - Final Notes” produced by Meyer.
The set features many previously unreleased performances and informal recordings of Judy from the 1968/1969 era, including some of her fabulous performances from her now-legendary engagement at London’s Talk of the Town nightclub in January 1969.
Thank you, John, for sharing this recording with us as well as producing this fantastic one-of-a-kind CD set!
