Narcissus Cheerfulness is definitely one of the most famous double daffodils (group 4 of the daffodil classification) available on the market and one of the oldest varieties too, indeed it was registered before 1923. It was raised by J.B. Van Der Schooti in the Netherlands and it is a double flowered sport (mutation) of the Narcissus Elvira. It produces 3-4 flowers per stem, 4-6 cm across, with white tepals and petaloids, yellow at the base, and yellow corona. Even if Cheerfulness is often sold as scented daffodil variety, to my nose it has an absolutely unremarkable fragrance, very light, I really need to stick my nose on the flower in order to smell it, definitely not a great narcissus for a fragrant garden, but its pretty shape makes it a great narcissus for collectors of double daffodil varieties.
As usual for daffodils, the bulbs need to be planted in autumn in well drained soil, and the plant thrives in full sun or at least partial shade. In summer the foliage dies down and bulbs can either be lifted and divided, or left in place keeping them as dry as possible.
