This is the one video that shouldn't have been removed from YouTube, so I decided to reupload it.
Ken Loach's debut feature stars Carol White - the star of his earlier Cathy Come Home and Up the Junction - as Joy, a young working-class mother living in London who embarks on a number of tumultuous relationships, often with criminals. Although living in poverty in the slums and mistreated by her lovers, she remains resilient about her lot.
After suffering abuse at the hands of her husband Tom, Joy and her son move in with Dave (Terence Stamp), one of Tom's criminal associates, and in this scene we can see their relationship at its most idyllic, a joyful and intimate moment expressed by Dave's rendition of the song Colours, written by Donovan.
As the film subsequently shows, sometimes things may take a turn for the worse, due to our weaknesses or adverse circumstances. Nevertheless, I believe that the beautiful moments one has the chance to experience always retain their value, whatever happens.
