Marxist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has claimed victory in Sri Lanka’s presidential election.
The election was the first since an economic collapse caused an uproar of protests in 2022.
Sky News Reporter Neville Lazarus said Mr Dissanayake “ran on an anti-corruption platform and for change” which attracted Sri Lankan voters.
“Even though he and his party had little or no experience of governance, the people chose him as they are disillusioned with traditional parties,” Mr Lazarus said.
