Bart's layman's definition of DMX:
A system that assigns a range of numbers that reserve functionality for a light fixture. The DMX address Channel range starts at 1 and goes up to 512 with each light fixture reserving a variety of ranges (DMX Mode) that is selectable by the user that best fits their needs. Within each channel contains a sub range between 0-255 that contains specific functions that the light has been designed to perform. With the use of a DMX controller, the user has ability to interface with the fixture and control it.
