The Rheinland-Pfalz Plandampf was one of the biggest steam events held in Germany during 2005. With ten steam locomotives active on mainline trains in the Neustadt area between 1st and 4th October, it was a magnet for enthusiasts from all over Europe. This programme follows the main event in addition to the special private charter day which saw steam operations on the scenic line between Kaiserslautern and Bingen. The Neustadt event saw frequent steam operated services to Bad Bergzabern, Wissembourg (France), Lindau, Karlsruhe and Speyer. Locomotives involved were 23 042, 042 018, 042 360, 50 2740, 52 4867, 012 100, 01 519, 01 118, 01 1066 and 03 1010 all working passenger trains in the area. On 4th October we include footage of 50 2740 working a special freight to Bingen. With superb visual steam effects this programme really brings the age of steam back to life with powerful locomotives doing what they do best! A great addition for anyone with an interest in european steam operations.
