The 2021 Kymco RevoNEX electric bike is nearing production as patent images reveal a motorcycle that is almost complete. Kymco is a Taiwanese company that manufactures motor scooters, motorcycles, and ATV. Now, it has set its sights on producing an electric bike. Designed like a normal bike, the RevoNEX has twin-headlamps upfront, while the side profile reveals a fairing that only discloses the electric motor. The battery and electrics are all tucked underneath, while at the rear, there will be a two-piece taillight setup. The number plate holder which is separate also houses the mudguard. However, the Kymco RevoNEX electric bike is not like other e-bikes. It features a 6-speed conventional gearbox that is operated via a clutch. Since an electric motor is different to that of a petrol engine, one can select any gear without holding the clutch and simply twist the throttle to move. The system is similar to the Rekluse clutch available on the MV Agusta Turismo Veloce SCS, but here it is in an electric motorcycle. It can be ridden like a normal bike, by changing gears while pressing the clutch, and unlike many other electric bikes, the RevoNEX also has brakes at conventional locations. This has been done to get more riders towards EVs since many find the scooter-like operation of electric bikes odd. Kymco will even offer a noise amplification system on the RevoNEX that will boost motor and gearbox noise. The bike will likely be launched in two versions – standard and premium. The latter will get high-spec parts like Brembo brake kit and Öhlins suspension, as seen on the concept at the Tokyo Motorcycle show. The standard variant might also get the same brakes, but different suspension components are expected to be offered with it. While the patent images do not confirm this, the manufacturer might take this approach to keep costs down for the entry-level variant and price it aggressively. With plans to launch the machine in 2021, more information will be out in the coming months. The pricing is not known yet, but Kymco will look to make it a value for money offering.
