Starting a family as a consultant is maybe not a topic that you would raise during your consulting job interviews, even though the question is very valid: Is it possible to have children as a consultant at McKinsey, BCG, Bain or at the many other consulting firms out there? Does the work-life balance of a consulting job allow to start a family as a consultant?
For YOUinConsulting, there are no taboo topics and therefore in this video I present my – maybe – controversial view on this topic. I explain the systemic reasons that may indeed make it challenging to start a family as a consultant, not least due to the very peculiar work-life balance that consultants enjoy. I then discuss solution options offered by the top consulting firms (and as usual, McKinsey, BCG and Bain lead the efforts to facilitate combining consultant and family life). I give some special attention to how consulting firm Partners often raise their kids, and I conclude with my advice, conclusions and Truth Score to answer the questions: Does the work-life balance of a consulting job allow to start a family and have children as a consultant?
