A lava lizard jumps to catch a fly hovering around the iguanas. The marine iguanas sneeze out excess salt from feeding on algae underwater. There were thousands along a short path on Fernandina Island. We saw many females digging nests, guarding nests or otherwise seeking nesting territory. Fernandina is the geologically youngest of all the Galápagos Islands, lots of lava rock means sand is important real estate for the nesting females.
