Could South Korea have the solution for how the rest of the world can build successful and sustainable food systems that can stand the test of time?
The Hansalim Network in South Korea stands today as one of the world’s leading cooperatives in sustainable food systems. Since their formal establishment in the 1980s, they have managed to create a deeply integrated cooperative model that is a symbiosis between consumers and food producers.
Built on mutual responsibility and deliberative democracy, Hansalim today comprises 2,300 farms and over 800,000 consumer households. They provide over 4,000 organic goods from farm to fork through an online shop and via 240 countrywide shops. In 2020, total sales were 340 million euros.
