Metro officials next week will provide four briefings in virtual meetings on the proposed light-rail line that would go from East Los Angeles through Montebello and Pico Rivera to Whittier. The Gold Line eastside extension has been under consideration since 2008 when Metro officials began looking at numerous routes east from where the line now ends at the 60 Freeway and Atlantic Boulevard. Soon, it came down to the route to Whittier and a route along the 60 Freeway to South El Monte. In February 2020, the Metro board chose a route south on Atlantic Boulevard to Washington Boulevard east and ending near PIH Health. The next step will be the release of the environmental impact report, expected in the spring of 2022. Metro will hold two meetings from noon to 1:30 p. m. and 6 to 7:30 p. on Monday, Nov. 15 that will focus on the two East Los Angeles stations at Atlantic Boulevard and Pomona Freeway and Atlantic and Whittier boulevards.
