Being that it's October, in my part of the world the autumn is in full effect. This time of the year means resting period for my Dendrobium Nobiles, but the leaves have started to yellow and fall. Is this a reason for concern?
Well not really, Nobile Dendrobiums are semi deciduous, meaning they will eventually lose their leaves along their life, but a newly matured cane is not supposed to lose its leaves before flowering. The older canes, older than 1 year at least, will lose their leaves until they will remain bare at some point. All of this is normal.
An abnormal behavior would be to lose all the leaves from the newly matured canes. This would mean some sort of disease, but if leaves on the older canes start to fall during the dormancy period, all is fine and normal, so there is no reason to be worried.
