WARNING, DO NOT EVER ATTEMPT TO SURF A TRAIN AT ANY TIME, IT LEADS TO EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS INJURIES AND POTENTIAL FATALITIES, THIS CLIP WAS NOT CAPTURED IN ANY ATTEMPT SPECIFICALLY FOR WHAT APPEARED, IT’S ORIGINALLY PART OF A TRANSIT FILM PROJECT THAT GOT AN UNEXPECTED SURPRISE DURING TAPING!
Monday, 12/06/2021, at 3:42 PM (15:42), while I was filming train action at the Girard Station on SEPTA’s Market Frankford Subway Line, I couldn’t believe this appeared on camera! A subway surfer on the back of the train as the train was pulling out of the station, quite a SHOCK on an electrified subway line in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with trains going up to 55 MPH on third rail power. I was very stunned to encounter this while doing a Philadelphia day-trip (which that trip itself was a BLAST), of course my intention was the railfanning of the trains themselves but quite unexpected for a subway surfer to appear. I know subway trains are oftentimes well known to get busy, especially at rush hour, but there is NEVER a given circumstance at any time to be allowed to surf trains. As rush hours are known as busy timeframes, that is why public transportation networks provide extra service to move crowds of people smoothest as possible. #subwaysurf #onlyinphilly #septa
