The quake struck 56 miles east-southeast of Perryville, Alaska. The maximum wave height detected was eight inches above tide level with small tsunamis hitting at least six points off Alaska's coast. An emergency alert sent to people's phones earlier read: 'The National Weather Service has issued a TSUNAMI WARNING. A series of powerful waves and strong currents may impact coasts near you. You are in danger. Get away from coastal waters. Move to high ground or inland now. Keep away from the coast until local officials say it is safe to return.'
