On October 4th, devotees of the Yoruba religion celebrate Orula, the African god who syncretizes with Saint Francis of Assisi.
Orula, also known as Orunmila or Orumila, is the Orisha of divination and wisdom in the Yoruba religion’s pantheon.
When Olodumare created the Universe, Orula was there as a witness to the creation. That’s why he knows the destiny of everything that exists.
He received a magical board from his brother Changó, constructed from the wood of a ceiba tree, and learned to interpret the secrets of Ifá, the supreme oracle through which he communicates with earthly beings.
Orula forms a Yoruba trilogy with the deities Olofin and Oddúa
