Took me awhile to figure out how to cheese this guy. Draw aggro from him then you align yourself on thte opposite side of the spire on that wreckage to where his location is. Then you walk forward and if you are touching the wreckage but still aren't in range of him, you can fall back a bit to lure him a bit closer.

The sweet spot is outside of his melee attack range but within Melia's attack range. If you get too close then he won't get stuck but he'll chase you around the wreckage/
