US President-elect Donald Trump has threatened the Palestinian group Hamas, demanding the release of hostages whom it captured after launching a deadly attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Trump in a social media post said, "If the hostages are not released prior to January 20, 2025, the date that I proudly assume office as President of the United States, there will be all hell to pay in the Middle East." It is unclear what strategy he plans to use if Hamas doesn't release the hostages by the deadline. Trump's statement came days after Hamas released a video of Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, who pleaded with the president-elect to secure his release.
