The goal poacher soccer position is a kind of forward who is scores goals with as few touches as possible, mainly from inside of the penalty box.
Goal poachers make goals out of the kinds of hard situations that other players would not even bother to make an attempt.
Goal poachers need great wingers and/or creative playmakers to provide them crosses as they look to score.
Some people think being a poacher in soccer is easy and takes no skill or effort what so ever because the passing teammate has to make the perfect pass.
However, being in the poacher role is all about having great positioning and have great finishing technique to score.
Poachers rarely take part in attacking build-up play but instead concentrate on ensuring they’re in space inside the penalty area ready to be first to the ball to score goals from close range.
Always alert and on the move poachers are a nightmare for defenders because they’re constantly changing positions to try to gain an advantage over their opponents.
They are alert and anticipate where the ball is going to be and often score using only one touch.
A large proportion of a poacher’s goals are unattractive, like:
1. Tap-ins from 3 yards out
2. Rebounds from goalkeepers’ saves
3. Redirecting deflections of other teammates shots
4. And the poacher striker will respond first to a ball that has hit the crossbar or the post.
However, whether the goal was flashy or not, a goal is a goal.
Would you rather be a player that scores one perfect upper 90 shot all season or be a player who scores 20 unattractive goals?
