Typically in the Catholic Church, only Catholics can receive the sacrament of confession. However, under dire circumstances, canon law allows non-catholic Christians, such as Protestant Christians, to receive the sacrament too. This is provided they respect and understand the sacrament and agree in the priest's authority under God.
