It's really important to have earrings that are made with metal that we're not allergic to - say sterling silver or gold filled. Most of us are allergic to nickel, although there are people who are allergic to all metals, even gold. But what do you do though with earrings that you really like or have sentimental value and they're made with base metal? If you cannot change the hook or post to a metal you're not allergic to, instead of throwing them out, I suggest a hack that will allow you to still wear them for a bit - say for a party or night out. First use rubbing alcohol to clean your ear and clean the entire area of the post thoroughly. Then use petroleum jelly and put it on the post, coating all the areas that will be touching skin - wipe off excess. What that does is it adds a slightly protective layer between your skin and the metal, and hopefully you'll be good a couple of hours. It is always better to change the post permanently. However, this hack will allow you to wear that heirloom to a family function or the must have earrings that finish a perfect outfit.
