(1 May 2016) Turkish police used tear gas and water canon spray to disperse a small group of May Day demonstrators attempting to reach Istanbul's iconic Taksim Square on Sunday.
The small group, consisted of a Turkish syndicate members were dispersed in Sisli district of Istanbul.
The Taksim square is symbolic as the centre of protests in which 34 people were killed in 1977.
The government designated another area in Istanbul as the authorized gathering space for those observing International Workers' Day.
