Why Moon Salutation?
It's a practice to activate Lunar energy flow within Ida nadi (left nostril) which has cool, relaxing and creative qualities. Ida is introverted and mental force which is responsible for consciousness. It's an ideal preparation for evening meditation, trataka and Pranayama practices.
It's a challenging practicing because of prolonged inhalation and exhalation. However if one can manage the practice with correct breathing, it will help to move forward in expanding consciousness for serious practitioners who are on spiritual journey!
It's important to learn Satyananda Surya namaskara before attempting Chandra Namaskara specially to get familiar with Breathing!
The moon having no light of it's own, reflects the light of the sun. Hence the practice of Chandra Namaskara reflects that of Surya namaskara.
The fourteen positions of Chandra Namaskara relate to the fourteen lunar phases. Fourteen days before full moon are known as Shukla Paksha - the bright fortnight and fourteen days after the full moon are as Krishna Paksha - the dark fortnight.
Moon effects all the water bodies earth on or during full moon and new moon days. One can feel either too excited or too dull during these days. I highly recommend practicing moon salutation during this period.
Best time to practice is in the evening after sunset.
