A couple of weeks back, myself, Karl's Thailand and John decided to explore Khao Yai National Park... we went on a hike through the jungles to look for wild elephants... on foot. Did we find any signs? We came across a pack of dhole eating a deer, followed by a monitor lizard.... there were monkeys, gibbons, hornbills, muntjac, even a family of otters....
On the trail, there was a LOT of elephant signs - fresh dung and the usual smashed up fauna and foliage.
After that, we visit a viewing tower, hitch a lift, visit a waterfall AND have a look at the highest point. We even had time for a delicious lunch near the park headquarters.
There were no restrictions on entry here; it was THB 400 to get in, the usual 10 times the Thai national price. I don't love the dual pricing system but I am well aware of it and do not moan at the staff of places because they do not make the rules. You can decide before you go... it's 10 pounds into an amazing national park, with vast area of jungley mountains, grasslands and jungle.
