Success! I attempted to recreate the famous hot chocolate that they serve at Angelina and I think I came pretty close. No more Swiss Miss for me!
Price of hot chocolate at Angelina:
8,20 EUR ($9.31 per today's conversion rate)
Price to make hot chocolate at home:
$6.27 (because of the gucci chocolate!)
IN CONCLUSION: it's (slightly) cheaper to make it at home and just as delicious!
To follow along with the video and make a one-cup serving:
- Pour whole milk into a heavy saucepan
- Bring the milk to a boil and then reduce the heat to a slow simmer.
- This is the part of the recipe that gets a little wonky (sorry): add a dash of cinnamon, a dash of salt, a splash of vanilla, and ⅛ teaspoon espresso powder (more if you want a stronger coffee punch). If you don't have espresso powder, feel free to add a bit of coffee.
- Let this simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low. Using your favorite chocolate bar, add chocolate squares to the milk (I ended up using six squares, i.e. a little over 2 oz).
- Stir frequently. Continue stirring and simmering until the milk reaches your desired consistency.
- When ready to serve, pour hot chocolate through a strainer to ensure that it's silky smooth. Best served hot with a side of Netflix (no chill).
~ Side note: I like to drink mine straight, but you can add whipped cream or marshmallows or sprinkles or...hot tamales?? ~
