Today's Highlights:
The country has recorded its first murder for 2025 after a man was gunned down while entering his San Juan home on Wednesday 1st January, 2025.
• The deceased is 39-year-old Kegan Barbour of Laventille Road, San Juan.
• Barbour was shot dead by a group of men who entered his home around 1:30am.
A Special Prosecutor in Tyson's gang-related case was murdered after leaving an Old Year's service:
• Around 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday 31st December 2024, attorney Randall Hector, a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Stanmore Avenue, Port of Spain, was shot while walking towards his vehicle.
• The shooting happened at Stanmore Avenue and Albion Street, where a Nissan B-15 and an SUV stopped near Hector.
• He was shot multiple times and collapsed on the roadway.
• A pastor at the church rushed outside after the vehicles sped off and found Hector nursing gunshot injuries.
• Hector was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital by a deacon, but he was declared dead.
Moments before his death, Hector delivered a sermon at the church saying that, "We have had a very bloody year in 2024 for T&T, but God has protected us."
• Hector was a special prosecutor assigned to prosecute Calvin Lee, aka Tyson, who is before the court on alleged gang-related charges, including being the leader of the 6ixx criminal gang.
• On Saturday, 28th December 2024, there was an attempt on Tyson's life outside the Besson Street Police Station.
A person who commits an offence under the Emergency Powers Regulations is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $100,000 and imprisonment for a term of five years.
Concerns have been raised about some aspects of the State of Emergency (SoE) regulations, arguing that they empower police to abuse citizens without legal recourse.
• Regulation 6 denies citizens the right to take legal action against the State for abuses during the SoE and the sole recourse is an application to the President, who may grant compensation upon successful appeal.
An ex-national footballer was held with five (5) guns, thousands of US and TT dollars, and a quantity of ammunition during an SOE raid on Wednesday 31st December, 2024.
• Police from the Western Division Gang and Intelligence and CID conducted an SOE exercise at the Petit Valley home of 55-year-old Terry "Jughead" St. Louis on Old Year's Day.
• Officers claimed, during a search of St. Louis's Pioneer Drive Petit Valley home, the following items were allegedly found and seized.
1. One AR-15 assault rifle;
2. Two CZ pistols;
3. One Glock pistol;
4. One Smith & Wesson pistol; and an assortment of 5.56, 9mm. 38, and .40 ammunition.
• Officers also found and seized $25,000 USD and $139,865TT inside a bedroom at the ex-midfielder's home.
The exercise took place between 5:30pm and 9:30pm and was sanctioned by Snr. Supt. Williams, and coordinated by ASP Hezron Lynch, Insp Grant, and Legal Officer Sgt. Verson Jeanville.
Missing- Matthew Bardoullie was last seen on Monday 16th December 2024.
