Chow Chow is the most graceful ball of fur. This breed from China is known for its adorable and loving nature. Their most distinguishable trait is their Lion’s mane, and they are famous all over the world for that. American Kennel Club describes this beautiful breed as” Dignified, Bright and Serious-minded”.
1. Aloof Pups
Ever had a cat? Ever got turned down by your Feline overlord? Well, Chow Chow will surely make you remember your cat. This breed is famously regarded as highly cat-like. And just like cats, these dogs can often have a world of their own and don’t really appreciate when someone disturbs their deep thoughts and their sleep.
2. Training Isn’t Easy
train. Unlike most dog breeds, Chow Chow doesn’t have the drive to please their owners and is happiest if left alone to their devices. And therefore, it will be wrong to expect a lot of obedience and devotion from them. There is a plethora of ways by which you can get your Chow Chow to get excited about training.
3. The Chow Walk
Unlike other dog breeds, Chow Chow has back legs that are completely straight. This feature developed in them as the breeders preferred it in China during this breed’s developmental time period. Their straight hind legs give them a “stilted” walk.
4.Extreme Loyalty
Chow Chow is well known for its tendency to make a special bond with a select lucky one. A bond based on nothing but loyalty, trust, and complete respect. You are indeed a lucky individual if you have such a lovely connection with a chow chow. This means that no matter what happens, you will never be alone.
5.Not Hypoallergenic
Unfortunately, Chow Chow is also non-hypoallergenic, and therefore it is not a good match for people with allergies.
6. Excellent Watch Dogs
Also known as War dogs, Chow Chow has a long history of fighting alongside their owners in every kind of battle, and therefore protecting their surrounding and their family is in their instincts. Their confident and bold behavior is enough to deter anyone from even thinking about hurting you or your family. That, along with the fact that they are very muscular, means that anyone foolish enough to pose a threat to them will surely need to visit the MD after that.
7. Unique Features
Chow Chow are the masters of the art of looking distinct and unique. They have traits that set them apart from any other dog breed. Among the most noticeable traits is their mane. Their mane is the most noticeable of all the dog breeds and gives them a majestic look befitting of their personalities.
8. Extensive Grooming
Chow Chow is characterized by having thick and rough coats. Their coats give them a graceful look, but their coats are also very vulnerable to fall victim to infestations, hairballs, and other such problems. Therefore, it is essential for owners to spend a considerable amount of time grooming their canine friend.
9. Medium-sized to Large Breed
. Weighing between 45 pounds to 70 pounds, chow dogs are definitely on the bigger side, and the fact that they have a muscular body on top of that speaks highly of this breed’s physical strength.
10. Lazy Tendencies
This breed has a different lifestyle and prefers to just lounge around all day long. Chow Chow are essentially very large cats, and you can totally understand what I am trying to say if you have ever tried to take a cat out for a walk.
11. Life Expectancy
No need to be sad though, as proper care and regular visits to the vet can help your fluffy friend live for up to 15 years.
12. Very Smart
Being adorably fluffy and super bright is the name of the game for this fantastic breed. This breed is so quick with its mind that teaching them anything new is a piece of cake. They will not only learn new tricks pretty soon but also will make improvements on them.
13. Stay Far from Water
Their coats are really not made for long exposure to water, and staying wet for too long can cause their coat to lose their charm. Therefore it is advised not to let them swim in pools.
