This fight along with Wilfredo Gomez vs Lupe Pintor for the greatest Mexico vs Puerto Rico battles and along with Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns for the greatest few round wars in boxing history. Now mix them together, Jose Luis Ramirez the former Mexican champion & Edwin Rosario the 24-0 21 KO's undefeated Puerto Rican who already previously beat Ramirez in 1983 for the vacant WBC title in Rosario first title shot.

Ramirez down in the first 15 seconds of the fight. Staggering all over the ring for a round. Dropped again in the middle of the 2nd round 10 times heavier than the first flash knockdown, staggering around for the rest of the round. Coming back to hurt Rosario bad in the 3rd with a thunderous left hook that had Rosario reeling across the ring. Hurt again in the 4th in the neutral corner, the bout was stopped and Ramirez became the new champion.
