In this video I show how to build a hydraulic log splitter for cheap, by salvaging parts you can build a DIY splitter that will help with processing your firewood.
In this three part video, I will be showing how my friend Dave and I built a hydraulic log splitter. I think the total cost was about $400 to build. I had the 6.5 hp motor from another project, I salvaged all of the metal , some of the scrap came from my work and the rest from my friend Dave, we also salvaged some hydraulic lines, another one of my friends was happy to donate the cylinder for the project, In return my friends that helped me find parts for this project can always borrow it for there fire wood splitting needs :)
We used our CNC plasma torch on this project and It made quick work cutting out all of the parts, But one could always free hand cut all the parts fairly easily with a torch.
Building this log splitter was a fun project and fairly easy to build.
I would recommend building a log splitter as long as you have a few of the main components like cylinder motor and some metal, If not there's a lot of affordable store bought splitters out there for around $1000. Not to discourage anyone from building one, just weigh out your options when thinking about it.
Thanks for watching!
