Kundah Power project: South India's Biggest Pumped storage
Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) is building India's largest underground pumped storage hydroelectric power project in the scenic Nilgiris of Tamil Nadu. The 500MW Kundah Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Project is a unique and ambitious endeavour that will set a new benchmark for hydropower generation in India.
Unlike traditional hydro projects, which are built across rivers, the Kundah project will use water from reservoirs to generate electricity. Water will be pumped from the Porthimund reservoir to the Avalanche-Emerald reservoir, and then used to power turbines to generate electricity. This process can be reversed to store excess electricity during peak demand times.
The Kundah project is being built underground to minimize its impact on the environment. The entire power station will be underground, with four 125MW units, for a total of 500MW.
MEIL is using indigenous technology to build this major project, one of the largest electricity-generating projects in South India. What makes this project unique is its use of reservoir water to
Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) is a major infrastructure company headquartered in Hyderabad, India. The company was established in 1989 as a small fabrication unit. In due course of time, the unit made a name for itself. We are fired by the zeal to equip the country with an engineering and infrastructure foundation that can hold up its pillars for generations to come.
