In this video you will learn how to customize holographic Mylar bags with the DigitalHeat FX 8432 system! Holly Wood, Product Manager at ColDesi, will be showing you how to make these wildly popular custom items for your customers to take your products to a whole new level. In this video, you will learn how to create these Mylar bags from start to finish.
This is what you will need:
- DigitalHeat FX Printer 8432
- Holographic Mylar Bags (Found on Amazon)
- Thermal Tape
- Forever Laser Dark A & B Sheet Paper
- Finishing sheets
- Rotary Trimmer
- Heat Press
First, print out the eye-catching logo(s) that you will be putting onto your Mylar bags. Make sure the design has a lot of open background areas or open elements that will allow the holographic background to show through!
Then, take the printed design to your heat press to "marry" the A sheet to the B sheet. This term is used to describe the process in which the glue is transferred only to where the ink has printed on the other sheet. Use a finishing sheet to protect the heat press. This press will be done at 310 degrees at low pressure for 120 seconds. Always check your paper to confirm directions.
When done with the heat press you can peel the second sheet off and the glue is officially applied. Once the glue is heat applied to the transfer sheet it is time to get ready to prep for application.
We will start by trimming the edges of the transfer sheets. All of the sheets have a little edge that needs trimming so the rotary trimmer makes this fast and easy, especially for larger jobs. It locks in place and secures the items for error-free cuts.
Now, use the thermal tape to tape the transfers to the front of the Mylar Bags to secure them in place. This holds them still while they are being heat pressed. The temperature on the heat press will need to be lowered to 200 so make sure to keep those settings in mind while you are doing prep work. You may want to change that setting while you are taping your transfers down to give the heat press time to cool.
Load up as many transfers as you can onto the heat press platen to maximize your heat press use. Cover with your Finishing Sheet and this will be a quick 10-second press at a medium pressure at 200 degrees. then remove from the heat press.
Since this is a cold peel process, let the Mylar bags cool down completely before removing the transfer from the bags. It is suggested to take them to a hard surface to expedite the cooling time and simply roll off the transfer when it is cool to the touch.
You can leave it as is for a glossy finish or cover it again with a finishing sheet at high pressure for 10 seconds for a more matte finish. This is just one cool way to create custom Mylar bags for you and your customers!
