The SNAP Challenge is a challenge to get a glimpse of what it's like to buy a week's worth of groceries on a limited budget. Individuals that depend on the SNAP program are given roughly $34 per week to spend on grocery items -- this number is a national average an individual can receive in SNAP benefits.
Jeff and Linell's mission was to spend less than $37 -- the average for an individual in California -- on all consumable items for one week. Although they would love to maintain the lifestyle they already live, sacrifices might need to be made because $37 isn't a lot of money. Their sacrifices pale in comparison to an individual depending on the SNAP program but they hope to better understand the challenges involved in living on a restricted budget.
