How To Get Approved For A Business Credit Card in 2022 (UK)
In this video, I'm going to explain how you would get a business credit card in 2022 in the UK. This process is slightly different in the UK.
Business credit cards benefits:
• Higher spending limit
• Protection
• 30-day credit line
• Amazing rewards (E.g. Cheaper airline tickets, cashback, etc.)
You don’t want to miss out on these benefits because, if you’re a beginner to running an online business, just starting out dropshipping or even if you’ve been in business a couple of years, a business credit card is extremely beneficial.
In my opinion, the best business credit cards to use are the AMEX business credit cards. You can use the AMEX basic business card, but the gold and platinum cards give some really nice rewards.
As it’s hard to get approved for some of these cards, you want to work your way up.
Before you even register for a business credit card, the best thing you can do is to have an existing relationship with the credit card company you’re applying for, by having a personal credit card first.
Which personal credit cards should I get?
It depends, but if you are going for an AMEX business card, you should go for a platinum AMEX personal card.
Before you apply for a personal credit card, check your eligibility because they do a hard credit check, which can damage your personal credit score. The best way to get approved is to have a good personal credit score. So, in order to get that, I applied for the easiest credit card: Amazon new day credit card. I kept that for 3-4 months.
I made sure not to go 25% over my credit limit and, once my credit score had gone up, I applied for an AMEX platinum card and got approved. It is a misconception that you don’t need a good personal credit score to get a business credit card because you do to get a personal card with the same credit card company. This means it's important to have a credit score of over 700.
Once you have a personal credit card with the company (which in this case is AMEX), I’d recommend not yet applying for the AMEX platinum card.
Here’s why.
Usually, the higher tier credit cards are harder to get accepted for, so I’d recommend getting one of the lower tier ones or a co-branded card like the Amazon Business Prime card or the British Airways one.
You typically will get a higher likelihood of being accepted anyway and a previous relationship with the partner brands only helps more.
Once you’ve applied for the lower tier business credit cards, use the card for 3-4 months and then try applying for the higher tier ones like the AMEX gold or platinum cards.
Downsides:
• Some people don’t accept AMEX business credit cards
• Annual fees
Apart from that, these are the best cards to use (in my opinion).
Also, make sure all the information you input is correct . If your application doesn’t get approved, you can reach out to the credit card company and ask why you have declined and this way you can always work on these things and apply in another couple of months.
For business credit cards for new businesses, they will do a personal credit check
