Craig at Canon rumours has posted a screen shot that purports’ to show the current canon lens roadmap, it certainly looks to be genuine, in that it covers what lenses we already know about and what we can confidently expect

So, let’s see what else we can glean from this document

Firstly, we’ll look at lenses being discontinued, we can see the plan covers certain efs lenses, the blue text translates to “scheduled cut off” and mentions several well-loved efs lenses, like the 18-135 IS STM, I own this lens and the copy I have is particularly sharp I used it on a number of hiking holidays and have some memorable shots, like the one behind me now

The 10-18 is also on the list, these are reasonably recent STM lenses and very popular, strangely the 55-250 lens mentioned is the older and less expensive non STM version they don’t mention the current 55-250 IS STM like the one I have here

So, what does this mean? Well apart from the obvious, meaning they will be harder to get and eventually you will have to buy second hand.
If we look at the new lenses still to come on the road map it might help us understand the whole picture……

Its intriguing to see some of the lenses in this map, the Japanese text in Red translates to “New Products stand on the plan” they mostly seem to be non-L lenses, with STM focusing, with one exception, the 18-45 IS STM, 24-105 IS STM both look like lenses aimed at APS-C bodies, and then the exceptions is the 100-400 IS C USM do we really need a 100-400 lens, when we already have the RF100-500? The answers to both these questions are coming up
