2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata Official Update : Is Still the King of Affordable Sports Cars!
The 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata is four-wheeled proof that the small, affordable sports car is alive and well. Other roadsters in the class may have more power, but few deliver the fun factor of the Miata. Just don’t plan to bring much with you on your corner-carving trips.
Mazda has confirmed the next-generation MX-5 Miata will be electrified. But the automaker stopped short of saying what form the electrification will take—fully EV, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid. Mazda's entire lineup is slated to go at least partially electric by 2030, which means if the next-gen Miata is to survive past then—and we certainly hope it does—this is a necessary step in the legendary sports car's evolution. The Mazda MX-5 Miata enters the 2025 model year with relatively few changes, as the convertible sports car received an update only a year ago. The highlight for 2025 is a new anniversary edition that celebrates 35 years since the launch of the original NA generation.
There’s just one engine, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. That’s not a lot on paper, but it’s enough to move the lightweight Mazda briskly.
