In 2004 Chris Green founded White Ribbon UK while working as a senior lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University.
From 2005-2008 he was appointed by the Congress of Local and Rgional Authorities to be a member of the Council of Europe Task Force to combat Violence against Women, one of only 8 members, which formulated and obtained funding to create the Istanbul Convention, now signed and ratified by 26 European countries.
From 2006 to 2010, He was a member of the World Health Organisation’s Violence Prevention Alliance. From 2007-2009 he was Chair of the Steering Group of the government sponsored Coalition on Men and Boys which produced a major report
In 2007 he was awarded the title Ultimate Man 2007 by Cosmopolitan Magazine for his work on anti-violence strategies. He has three times been recognized by invitations to receptions held by Prime Minsters at Number 10, Downing Street, and two invitations to the Speakers House in Parliament.
In 2008 he took early retirement from Manchester Metropolitan University to concentrate on further developing White Ribbon UK
From 2012-2016 he sat on the ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) Domestic Violence Stakeholders Advisory Group, and the Public Health England Violence against Women Advisory group, as well as the National Institute for Clinical Excellence working party on Domestic Abuse
UN Group Leaders of Men to Combat Violence against Women
In 2012 he was appointed to the UN Group Leaders of Men to Combat Violence against Women by Ban Ki Moon, a group of 20 men working to combat violence which included Archbishop Desmond Tutu and former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Zapatero and author Paulo Coelho, and received a letter of congratulation from the Prime Minister.
From 2012-2016 he was a member of the End Violence against Women Coalition Prevention group and Expert Advisory Group.
In 2017 New Years Honours Chris Green was awarded an OBE by HM the Queen for Services to Equality.
As well as running training events for Police Forces, Housing providers and City councils he has worked in Ghana, Namibia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Russia and Lebanon. He has lectured at the Inter Parliamentary Union, Swedish, Portuguese and Mexican Parliaments, the Council of Europe, AGM of Welsh Womens Institute, a dozen UK Universities, and in 2018 he was one of only two male workshop leaders at the World Forum for Democracy summit meeting hosted by the Council of Europe. He has been invited to debate at the Oxford, Cambridge and Durham University Unions.
Chirs has worked with more than 20 different womens organisations including Refuge, Womens Aid, Object, No More Page Three, Feminista, Womens Institute, Reclaim the Night, Womens Equality Party and Soroptimists International. He was recognized as a Changemaker at the Women of the World Festival alongside Peter Tatchell and Baroness Doreen Lawrrence.
In January 2019 he visited Ghana White Ribbon Campaign. And gave over 24 presentations while in the country
March 2019 Lecturing and Development study tour to Namibia White Ribbon Campaign. He was invited to dinner by the British Ambassador at a meeting of influential Namibian women, and being asked to keep his remarks brief was told afterwards “That was the shortest speech I have ever heard a man give”
In January 2021 With Marcus Rashford, Chris Green was one of six people chosen as a Compassion in Politics role model by students for the cross party group Compassion in Politics.
January 2021 Workshop at Eton College: “Why Me ?”, why men and boys need to be engaged in challenging violence against women. It was delivered from Eton to 15 schools. A second event took place in April.
March 2021 Chaired “The Tackling Gender Based Violence Conference” organized by Government Events.
