20 Sniper Tips TF2! These tips will help make you the best sniper you can be in Team Fortress 2! This Sniper guide goes over must know sniper tips that will allow you to live longer and win more games!
1. Always stay moving, even while scoped keep moving, even the smallest movements can cause an enemy to miss. Crouch spamming is especially important for sniper duels so the enemy misses head-shots.
2. Incorporate your movement into your aim, if you're going to crouch, and shoot once you hit the bottom, aim above the enemy's head to compensate. This will make there little to no wasted movement, and no wasted time sitting in the crouching position.
3. After killing an enemy or being sighted, change positions. If you attack the enemy from multiple positions they will have a much harder time attacking you, or pinning you down. It also helps avoid people who you've already killed, who know your position. Take for instance this Badwater top down, if I shoot another sniper in their spawn from here, I'd want to move to here, when they respawn they will look towards my previous position, giving me an opening to kill them again, and then change positions again. Either to my previous spot, or to a new position here.
4. Listen for nearby enemies, if you need to stay scoped in, you can't see nearly as much around you, so sound is necessary to stay aware of your surroundings. In particular listen for spies uncloaking, soldiers rocket jumping, and demos sticky jumping, because they are most likely to be able to get to your position, passing your teams' front lines. Also, it's good to note that if you're in an area that your teammates shouldn't be walking through, foot steps are likely spies trying to kill you, even invisible spies give off footsteps!
5. When dueling other snipers, put your cursor near their head without scoping first, then scope in and shoot right away. This leaves you moving very slowly for less time, and let's you see around you for other threats. If the sniper is getting healed, this won't work, you'll need to charge up before you shoot to actually kill the enemy sniper, making it much trickier. If they have a medic and you're dueling them, the best thing to do is run away, come back, and get a surprise charged shot on them or the medic before they've seen you.
6. Target priority. Some enemies are worth more than others, specifically; medics, engineers and other snipers. Medics are always higher priority, because they are the strongest class in the game, and the enemy team will lose without their medic, snipers are high priority because they can kill you instantly, or kill your medic very quickly. Medics are so important, that it is worth sacrificing your life to kill them, especially if they have uber. Engineers are actually a support character despite being placed in the defense category for who knows what reason, they can heal and teleport the enemy in, you don't want them to get advanced building positions, plus they can be carrying a building, which makes them easier to hit because they are slower, and more valuable kills. Also keep a look out for low health enemies that you can finish off, an extra body shot can be very good for finishing off retreating enemies.
7. Protect your teammates. Sniper is especially good at protecting Engineer, and is good at protecting front line members from spies. Sniper can often times sit nearby to an Engineer, which provides deterrent to enemy spies, and stops people from harassing the Engineer from spots his sentry can't attack. The Engineer also protects the Sniper with his sentry, getting rid of all nearby enemies except spies. Making it a perfect spot for Sniper to be, as long as the line of sight is good.
8. Do damage as deterrent, Sniper doesn't always have to kill his enemies, usually you should, but not always, if there is a high health class coming after you or a weakened teammate, head-shot them to deter them from finishing the kill. Saving a teammate's life can be worth more than killing an enemy depending on the game mode, such as if you're on defense on Attack/Defend or Payload.
