Plac Dominikański in Wrocław (German: Dominikanerplatz) - one of the main squares of Wrocław located in the Old Town.
The original Dominikański Square was adjacent to the southern façade of the Dominican Church of St. Wojciecha, and therefore it was located on the extension of today's Wita Stwosza Street between the streets of Bl. Czesław (and St. Catherine) and Klemens Janicki. During the construction - at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries - of Galeria Dominikańska and the Mercure Panorama hotel, the former outline of the square was approximately reconstructed.
Shortly after World War II, the German name of the square was translated into Plac Dominikański, but in the era of Stalinization in the late 1940s, it was named after the co-creator of the Stalinist state apparatus, Feliks Dzierżyński. After removing the ashes of the quarter adjacent to the southern side of the square (in the place of the former internal moat), the area reaching up to Oławska Street was leveled and turned into greenery and a parking lot, and on its eastern side, in the early 1970s, a typical Panorama hotel was built. Thus, the term Dzierżyński Square extended to the entire area, larger than the Market Square, including the intersection of Oławska, Piotra Skargi and Kazimierza Wielki Streets. In 1989, the historical name and borders of the square were restored, and in 2001, most of the area of the post-war Dzierżyński Square stretching to ul. Oławska, the Dominican Gallery was built. However, in the minds of the inhabitants and on many plans, the square is located basically at the aforementioned intersection, and therefore about 200 m from its actual location.
