Gambling addiction has become a severe problem in the UK, with over £1.7 billion being spent annually on mental health treatment, homelessness, and crime related to gambling.
Labour MP Carolyn Harris says the lack of legislation addressing the rise of online gambling has allowed the industry to exploit vulnerable individuals for profit.
In an interview with Jeremy Kyle she shed light on the industry's 'immoral' practices and called for stronger government intervention.
"The only time I've got a problem with gambling is when the person has an addiction and the industry exploits that vulnerability in order to make a profit off the back of them," said Carolyn Harris.
She suggested that the gambling industry was designed be addictive like alcohol and drugs, adding that current legislation was written in 2005, which was two years before an iPhone was invented.
