Speaking to ThePrint, days after his retirement, former Chief Justice of India UU Lalit said that the Supreme Court is yet to put in place a formal mechanism to have a secretariat, as was directed by the apex court in its judgement striking down the National Judicial Appointment Commission (NJAC) – a new system proposed by the NDA government to make judicial appointments. Justice Lalit also said that discussions before the collegium cannot be made transparent, only decisions can be.
