Have you ever wondered about the oldest known planet in the universe? Well, it's not in our solar system, but far away in the constellation of Scorpius. It's called PSR B1620-26 b, also known as Methuselah, and it's a whopping 12.7 billion years old – that's almost as old as the universe itself!
Methuselah is a gas giant planet that is about twice the mass of Jupiter.
It orbits a binary star system that is located about 12,400 light-years from Earth.
Methuselah was discovered in 1993 by astronomers who were studying the pulsar PSR B1620-26. They noticed that the pulsar's orbit was being affected by the gravitational pull of another object, which turned out to be Methuselah.
The discovery of Methuselah was a major breakthrough in our understanding of planetary formation and evolution.
