CINCINNATI (WKRC) - There was a big celebration at the University of Cincinnati Thursday as its new Gardner Neuroscience Institute opened.
It's right in front of UC Medical Center's main hospital. It's an outpatient facility specifically designed for patients who need neurology care. This can include everything from stroke rehab to diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease.
It's a 114,000 square-feet and cost $68 million to build. About 125 physicians and researchers will be part of it.
It has a new area for rehabilitation with windows all around it and an infusion center. Many medications for conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, are now given by IV, so patients never have to leave the building to get what they need. It also has kiosks for sign-ins and private registration areas.
UC had patients help design it to really try and meet their needs. It's a lot larger than where they previously had to go and easier to navigate.
