Once a powerhouse, Pakistan's film industry, Lollywood, began in Lahore in the late '20s and '30s. Studios like Shah Noor, Bari, Shadab, and Evernew thrived, creating memorable films and superstars in Urdu and Punjabi cinema.
Lollywood's golden era peaked in the early '60s, producing 100 films annually. However, the '70s brought challenges: the loss of East Pakistan, bans, and censorship under Zia in the '80s, and the rise of VCRs and video piracy in the '90s.
The industry dwindled, but hope remains. Recent years have seen a revival with improved production and new talent. Lahore's film studios symbolize resilience and the enduring spirit of storytelling in Pakistan's cinematic journey.
