Low Vision
• It is a visual deficiency (Low vision) that is not curable
• A condition in which a person is without a significant measure of vision but is not totally blind.
Difficulties Encountered
• Loss of central vision - difficulty in appreciating things located just in front
• Loss of peripheral (side) vision - difficulty in appreciating the images located on the sides
• Blurred vision
• Hazy vision
• Reduced contrast sensitivity (difficulty in seeing clear in presence of decreased Contrast background) able to see things situated at a close distance only
• Difficulty in recognizing objects at a distance
• Differentiating colors
• Night blindness
Causes of low vision with children:
• Children with brain damage
• A congenital and developmental defect
• Premature babies
• Any Special child
• Neurological defects
• Cortical Visual impairments (CVI) (present at Birth) (A condition in which the eyes are able to see but the brain is not able to interpret what is being seen.)
It not only affects their ability to see but also their education and cognitive development
Some are born with it others acquire it in early life
Difficulties of children with low vision
• Not able to identify mother’s face
• Trouble walking downstairs
• Irritability at the crowd
• Poor attention in class
• Difficult to read and write
• Difficulty to get the things
It can drastically change a child’s life.
It not only affects their ability to see but also their education and cognitive development
Causes of low vision with adults
• Macular degeneration
• Cataracts
• Glaucoma
• Diabetic retinopathy
• Retinitis pigmentosa
• Amblyopia
• Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)
• Retinal detachment
• Traumatic brain injury
It can be difficult for them to keep their jobs.
Difficulties of adults with low vision
• Difficulty in Reading regular prints in spite of spectacle wear, using computers, Driving, managing daily chores like cooking for ladies,
• Recognizing people’s faces
• Identifying colors in watching television or computer screen clearly
Persons with unexpected visual impairments can lead normal daily life by making modifications in daily life skills.

•With the help and practice of low vision devices, each visually impaired person can lead a near-normal (independent) life by themselves.
•Low vision rehabilitation center helps low vision people to improve their skills with their available vision
•Be aware of the low vision rehabilitation center and use low vision devices that best meet your needs to enhance your vision.
