Kala S. Sridhar (PhD, Ohio State University & Fulbright Nehru Fellow, UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs) joins Richard K. Green (Director, USC Lusk Center for Real Estate) to present research on how the spatial structure of India's cities are shaped by regulatory factors as well as market forces. Sridhar points out that master planning in India can stretch across multiple years. Meanwhile, services are often not planned in advance, including public transportation. After summarizing existing research and the study’s methods, Sridhar then covers regional variations in the suburbanization of cities throughout India.
