(13 Sep 2015) Thousands of supporters of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Pakistan on Sunday rallied to protest against the killings and disappearance of their party members.
The protesters included families of the missing and dead party workers.
MQM accuses Pakistan's law enforcement agencies - police and paramilitary rangers - of carrying out extrajudicial killings of its workers and it holds them responsible for up to 150 missing persons.
Protesters marched to the Mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinah, the founder of the nation, and chanted slogans demanding the recovery of missing workers and an investigation into the alleged extrajudicial killings of workers.
MQM central leader Dr. Farooq Sattar said his party was demanding the safe return of 150 missing people and an investigation into the deaths of another 50.
The protest was ignited after the deaths of four MQM workers in an alleged confrontation with rangers on Thursday night.
MQM claims they were already in the custody of the law enforcement agency and were killed unlawfully.
The Sindh branch of Pakistan's rangers denied the charge and said the four had been hiding in MQM's safe house, and were killed during an encounter with law enforcement officers.
