Ingredients:
1/2 cup Toor Dal (Pigeon Pea)
2 chopped tomatoes
oil for seasoning
salt to taste
1 tbsp pepper corns
1 tbsp cumin
1 lemon
For Seasoning:
1/2 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp chilli powder
2 stems of curry leaves
coriander leaves for garnishing.
Method:
Add 2 cups of water to the dal and pressure cook for 3 whistles, whisk the dal thoroughly.
Roughly crush peppercorns & cumin.
Heat 3 tsp oil, add mustard, cumin, turmeric, chili powder & curry leaves. Now add the tomatoes, mix well. Add crushed pepper corns & cumin. (Do not burn the seasoning).
Mash the tomatoes so that it mixes well with spices & seasoning.
Now add the cooked dal. Add 2 cups of water.
Add half of the coriander leaves while cooking.
Bring the rasam to a boil. Garnish with corriander leaves.
Enjoy this refreshing & flavorful rasam with rice or drink it as soup.
