Despite ample lands, water resources, fertile soils and a favourable climate, productivity of most crops in Zambia remains extremely low. In Zambia, more than a third of children under five years old suffer from malnutrition. Despite calls to reduce deforestation to fight climate change, Zambia loses 750 hectares of forest land daily, the equivalent of 1,000 football fields of forest lost every single day. Being climate smart is basically helping he farmers to adapt to a climate which is now more erratic than it was before in a context where their soils are usually declining in soil fertility. Because of these changes, climate smart agriculture techniques are being promoted across the country so that farmers can have improved and sustained productivity, increased profits and food security while preserving and enhancing the resource base and he environment through farm diversity. For the past 5 years, the European Union has supported FAO in Zambia for conservation farming which led to the improvement of nutritional status and the increase of income levels.
