Luigi Mangione, who has been charged in New York with the murder of insurance executive Brian Thompson, was the valedictorian at his $37,000-a-year all-boys prep school, an engineering graduate at the University of Pennsylvania, and a rapidly ascending data engineer at TrueCar. When he was arrested Monday in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he was found with a homemade gun and a manifesto, which a person familiar with the matter described as anti-capitalist and critical of health-care companies’ profit motives.
