Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Rhino Rack Ski and Snowboard Carrier, and seeing how it fits on the top of our 2023 Subaru Outback. This style of roof mounted ski and snowboard carrier is gonna hold your gear in between these two spring loaded jaws. They have very thick rubber padding in them that's going to clamp around your stuff, keeping it protected and cushioned, but also providing grip to make sure everything stays still and doesn't shift around whenever you're going down the road. It's very secure in there.

And the nice thing is the carrier does lock up so everything inside is secured. A lot of people really like to use rooftop boxes for this purpose, and because they're enclosed, they lock up. And it is nice if they're enclosed from the elements in a box, but boxes get to be very expensive, high profile, they stick up a lot from the roof of your car and you gotta find space for it whenever you're not using it. So in the garage, it's gonna take up a lot more room. Something like this is easy to store.

It still locks up even though it's exposed to the elements. You've got the element of security, very low profile, and easy to set up on the roof by yourself, because it's just a few clamps. It clamps around the factory crossbars we're using just fine but these bolts that are included are long enough for aftermarket crossbars if you have those instead. And depending on the sizing of the carrier, you can find other options. So, they make a smaller version and a larger version.

For the actual usable space on this one, measuring from inside edge to inside edge, it's gonna be about 20 inches of usable space. So, take your skis and snowboards, whatever you have you got and you want to carry, line it up and see if it fits within that space. As you can see, you can do some stacking like this with things like the skis. So, depending on what kind of gear you have, this might be the perfect one for you. But like I mentioned, there's a smaller version and a larger version, and it's gonna function the same way.

Now, with this, the button is not the biggest in the world but it comes out from the carrier itself. So, it's easy to hit with the palm of your hand, it'll open itself up with that spring loaded arm. So if you've got gloves or mittens on and you don't have the best use of your hands, you can just hit it with the palm and it'll pop open. The Outback isn't the tallest vehicle in the world, but with how far this extends to the center of the roof, you might find you have some issue getting to the stuff on the inside. Depending on your height, that might not be a concern at all. But you can also just step up into the door jam vehicle to get those things, if that is a concern. And as you get into the larger version of the carrier, that will pretty much be a necessity to reach further in like this. Those thick rubber pads are going to hold everything really well. And one thing I do wanna point out is the overall height added to the vehicle. I mentioned they're low profile, but how low profile are they Going from the crossbar to the top of the carrier, it's gonna be sitting in six inches. So, it doesn't add a whole lot of height. If you've got something like a snowboard with the bindings face up, that will add a little bit more height to your vehicle, but not much, and especially compared to something like a box, which can be anywhere upwards of about 13 or more inches. So, things like parking garages can be really difficult there. And if you're looking for a simple carrier with lots of different size options, I think look no further than the Rhino Rack Ski and Snowboard Carrier. It's a good fit for the 2023 Subaru Outback.
