Ukrainian Air Force pilot-turned-MP Nadiya Savchenko has appeared in a Moscow court today to attend an appeal calling for her release in order to attend a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, of which she is a delegate. Savchenko is currently on hunger strike over her imprisonment in Russia, which critics have branded as political and illegal. Moscow accuses her of involvement in the deaths of Russian journalists in the east Ukraine conflict zone in summer 2014. She denies the charges and has been on hunger strike for 82 days, leading to fears that she may be close to death.
